It's time to enforce Brampton's bylaws
Thursday August 7 2008

Re: City bylaws a sham, Letters, Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008.

With reference to the letter, I would like to add my wholehearted agreement to Linda Pearson's views.

Honestly, what good are any laws if they are not enforced and therefore blatantly ignored by too many residents.

For instance, I remember articles in The Guardian reminding us of the bylaw whereby garbage, recyclables, and yard waste are not to be placed at the curb before 7 p.m. of the evening before collection day.

In my area collection is Monday but there are folks putting stuff out on Saturday or Sunday morning.

Then there is the issue of people playing music outdoors for everyone to hear.

For some reason they think everyone likes their kind of music and hence everyone should hear it.

There is nothing more "disturbing of the peace" than this.

This should not be permitted even during the day, because there are lots of folk- police officers, nurses, doctors, night shift factory workers who work through the night and would like some peace and quiet during the day to catch up on some sleep.

Perhaps even a sick elderly person or infant who needs to rest.

This is why these bylaws need to be enforced so that residents get in line.

A quiet, peaceful and clean neighbourhood and indeed a whole city has such a nice charm and good feeling about it.

It makes you want to belong.

A clean and quiet place is an indication of having law and order and this in turn maintains good property values.

Something that all property owners can appreciate.

Since people will not obey the bylaws that are in place, could the folk at City Hall please, please do their jobs and start enforcing them.
