Brampton handyman competes in HGTV reality series

BRAMPTON - If you build it (on national TV), they will come (to the television set every Thursday night, beginning July 2). At least, that's HGTV's hope for fourth installment of the Handyman Superstar Challenge.
And, area residents will be likely to tune in to root for Brampton's Jason Best, who's in the running to be named Canada's top handyman.
Born and raised in Brampton, Best, 36, is one of 10 Canadians who will hammer away for the coveted title of Canada's Handyman Superstar on the elimination reality series judged by home improvement gurus Mike Holmes and Jim Caruk.
Contestants are pitted against one another in a variety of handyman challenges- such as the freestyle challenge in the series' kick off- to demonstrate skill, integrity and creativity and, hopefully secure a spot to participate in the next challenge.
Best, a Markham firefighter, was required to spend several weeks away from his work and his family- wife Leslie, and kids Tristan and River- but said it was a rewarding experience despite that personal obstacle.
"My wife is the one who encouraged me to send in an audition tape to HGTV," Best told The Guardian. "Before that, I had only ever seen the show one time. I had no idea what I would be in for.
"It was nothing like I expected."
