BRAMPTON - The popular student body of East High will take the stage in Brampton for two weekends only.

Local production company Bird Entertainment presents the Disney sensation High School Musical July 17 to 19, 25 and 26 at Cyril Clarke Theatre.

Brian Bird, founder of Bird Entertainment, said the company jumped at the chance to produce the smash-hit musical locally.

“If we don’t do it, someone else will,” he said. “This is such a popular show.”

But even those who know the film version verbatim will have something new to look forward to, he said.

“What’s good about the stage version is there are additional songs that are not in the movie version,” said Bird, who will direct the show. “It gives us the opportunity to put our own stamp on it, and make it our own.”

While the majority of the cast and crew hail from Brampton, Bird has recruited some professional actors from other regions to perform in the play.

The popularity of the Disney sensation sparked a sequel in 2007— and a third is due out in October of this year.

“It’s a great time to revisit the first one, especially with the release of the third one coming soon,” said Bird.

For tickets and show times, call 905-874-2800 or visit www.birdent.com.

Those attending either Saturday matinee show are invited to a Wildcat party following the show.

The audience will have the opportunity to meet the cast and share a special Wildcat cake following the performance.
