Brampton playwright featured at fringe festival

BRAMPTON - A Brampton playwright will feature a brand new, hot-off-the-press work at the 2008 Hamilton Fringe Festival Aug. 16 to 24.
Sabrina Noble, 27, will premiere her fourth theatrical work Dark City Street- a film noir parody that puts a fresh, modern spin on an old genre.
"It just sort of teases around gender conventions," explained Noble, who reversed gender roles in the production, giving the play a unique and appealing edge.
"It's a murder mystery, dark comedy- it's a little bit of everything," she said.
The plot sees Private Eye Merlot Phillips investigating death threats to California's new senator Richard Krauss. What ensues is a murder investigation on the former senator- and an entertaining, on-the-edge-of-your-seat whodunit.
"It's a murder mystery that will put a smile on your face," Noble quipped.
Formerly, Noble has showcased a work at the Toronto Fringe Festival, as well as the play festival at the University of Western Ontario.
Fringe fests, she said, present the perfect opportunity to showcase a new work "if you are lucky enough to get in", as participants are selected by lottery.
"You don't have to be established to get into a fringe festival, and you can be daring if you want to try something different," she said.
Dark City Street is presented by Brampton's own theatre company, Savage Noble Productions.
