BRAMPTON - One down, two to go!
The Brampton Excelsiors pretty much need a sweep over the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks in Ontario Lacrosse Association Majors Series action this week if they have any hopes of a top-two finish in the OLA standings and the first round playoff bye they most dearly covet.
They got off on the right foot in the mini three-game series on Thursday as they downed the Kodiaks 13-6 at the Powerade Centre.
The two sides go at it again tonight in Kitchener-Waterloo and the Excelsiors are back there again on Tuesday to wrap up the season series between the two.
“It was a big game,” admitted Brampton coach Troy Cordingley after the victory. “It was a must-win for us.”
The Brampton bench boss knows it won’t be easy to claim one of the first round playoff byes, but he feels he has the team that can do it.
“If we want a shot at second we need to run the table,” admitted Cordingley. “I expect us to elevate our game.”
And Cordingley added a little insurance in that regard just prior to the July 1 trade deadline.
The Excelsiors picked up Shawn Williams in a deal with the Brooklin Redmen— a deal that brought the long time Brooklin captain and leading scorer to the Excelsiors in exchange for four first round draft picks.
It has paid immediate dividends.
