Kingsmore shines on softball diamond

BRAMPTON - Brampton's Lisa Kingsmore, a softball player at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC has been recognized for excellence in the classroom and on the field in 2008.Kingsmore, finished second in voting for both the Big South Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year and Big South Conference Athlete of the Year.The Scholar Athlete was voted on by the league's Sports Information Directors while the league's Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators and SIDs voted on the Athlete of the Year award.The All-Big South performer had her finest season in a Lady Eagle uniform as she finished the year with a .446 batting average, which ranked 10th nationally. She was named the 2008 Big South Conference Player of the Year while earning Louisville Slugger All-Region First Team and National Fastpitch Coaches Association Second Team All-America honours also.During the season she became just the seventh player in school history to reach 200 hits in a career and her .446 led the Big South.She finished with a career-best six home runs and had a .500 batting average in 15 league games.In addition to her on-field accomplishments she equaled or bettered that in the classroom.Kingsmore enters her final year of school with a 3.997 grade point average with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She earned CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American honours and was named the Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year.Kingsmore received two first place votes for Scholar Athlete of the Year, finishing just six points back of 2008 Big South Scholar of the Year, Felicitas Mensing (Coastal Carolina).In the Player of the Year voting. she finished second, 14 points back of Liberty's Megan Frazee. Kingsmore had two first place votes.
