BRAMPTON - Brampton native Jenna Mielzynski won the jump competition at the recent Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships in West Chester, Ohio. And she did it despite competing with a fractured rib. Mielzynski, a graduate of Mayfield Secondary had a jump of 149 feet to claim the women's title. She has also been selected to the Elite Canadian National Waterski Team to compete at the Pan American Championship in Columbia however because of her injury the team doctor advised her to rest and allow the fracture to heal, so she was unable to attend. The U.S. meet had competitors ranging in age from 17 to 21, with 50 athletes from five continents competing.Mielzynski is entering her senior year at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida where she is on a water ski scholarship. Last season she earned All-American honours leading Rollins to an eighth-place finish in Division II at the National Collegiate Water Ski Association national championship. She dominated the women's division taking the overall title as well as finishing first in tricks and jumps and second in slalom.
