COBRA swims to third at provincials

BRAMPTON - COBRA Swim Club sent a team of 30 athletes to Thunder Bay to compete at the Ontario Long Course Provincial Championships.COBRA swimmers combined to earn 20 gold, 10 silver and six bronze medals; as well as, a first-time senior national qualifier, four new club records set and an Iron Swimmer Award winner.Team COBRA finished third overall in the team competition out of the 55 clubs represented.Among the 10-year-old girls, Bayley Dalbec won a gold medal in the 100m back, silver in the 200m back, bronze in both the 50m free and 200m free and placed fourth in the 100m and 400m free. Dalbec set five new personal best times including an eight-second improvement in the 200m back and set a COBRA club record in the 100m back.Marion Olivier swam to fourth place in the 50m fly, fifth in the 50m back, thirteenth in the 200m back and fourteenth in the 400m free. Olivier had personal best times in all of her events.Cierra Glysz placed fifth in the 100m back, ninth in the 200m back, 10th in the 100m fly, 12th in the 100m free and top 20 in the 200m free.Vivianna Choi swam to eighth place in the 50m breast and 50m back. Choi set four new personal best times including a six-second improvement in the 100m free.Amanda Campbell finished sixth in the 50m fly and seventh in the 50m back.Paige Hall led the 11-year-old girls with gold medals in the 800m free and 400m IM to earn the Iron Swimmer award, as the best distance swimmer, for this age category. Hall also earned gold in the 100m back, 200m IM and 400m free.Teammate Danicca Sinanan swam to seventh place in the 200m back and 800m free, 10th in the 400m free, 14th in the 400m IM and a top 20 in the 200m fly.Nimrata Virk placed 14th in the 200m fly and top 20 in the 100m fly.Isabelle Francouer was 10th in the 800m free and 13th in the 400m free.Katrina Bhagaloo was golden in both the 100m and 200m breast. Bhagaloo set three personal best times including a seven-second improvement in the 200m breast.Edna Banjanovic improved her 800m free time by 57 seconds to finish 11th over all. Banjanovic also finished 14th in the 400m free.Ashley Beckles placed seventh in the 100m fly, 10th in the 200m fly and top 20 in the 400m IM. Beckles improved her 200m fly time by 17 seconds.Danai Sisouphanh represented COBRA in the boys 11 and under age category.Sisouphanh earned a silver medal in the 100m breast, sixth place in the 50m breast, 12th in the 100m back and 14th in the 200m back.Emily Joy, girls 12, finished top 20 in the 800m freestyle. Joy set personal best times in the 200m free and 200m back events.COBRA was represented by Daniel Manson in the boys 12 age category.Manson swam to 10th place in both the 400m IM and 800m free. Manson improved his 800m free best time by 47 seconds.Among girls 13 years of age, Brooke Hall earned a silver medal in the 100m fly, bronze in the 1500m free, fourth in the 200m fly, fifth in the 800m free, sixth in the 400m IM and seventh in the 200m IM. Hall dropped 40 seconds from her previous 800m free time and set a COBRA club record in the 1500m free.Teammate Tara Dakers swam to fifth place in the 200m and 400m IM, eighth in the 200m back, 10th in the 100m back and 12th in the 100m and 200m fly.Danielle Ranieri finished sixth in the 1500m free, seventh in the 100m back and 800m free, ninth in the 200m IM, 12th in the 400m IM and 13th in the 200m fly.Hall, Dakers and Ranieri each set three new personal best times.Sarah Moore represented COBRA in the girls 14 age group.Moore swam to ninth place in the 200m fly, 14th in the 100m fly and top 20 in the 200m back.James Middlebrook, boys 15, medalled in all of his events.Middlebrook was golden in the 200m free, 400m free, 100m back and 200m back and won silver in both the 50m and 800m free.Middlebrook dropped 31 seconds from his 800m free best time.Alex Kyriacopoulos placed fourth in the 200m fly, fifth in the 100m fly, ninth in the 50m free, eleventh in the 100m free and twelfth in the 200m IM.Alisha Harricharan, girls 15-17, had gold medal performances in the 200m free, 200m fly and 800m free, silver in the 100m free, 10th in the 200m back and 11th in the 200m IM.Harricharan set a new COBRA club record in the 200m fly.Rebecca Newman swam to seventh place in the 1500m free and 13th in the 400m free.Meagan Littlejohn swam a personal best time in the 50m free to qualify for her first Senior Nationals and win a bronze medal. Littlejohn also finished fourth in the 100m fly, seventh in the 100m free, 11th in the 200m free and top 20 in the 100m back.Kaylee Dakers earned a bronze medal in the 200m breast, fourth in the 400m IM, 100m breast and 200m IM, sixth in the 200m back and seventh in the 100m back.Victoria Thicke-Rattray placed 14th in the 200m breast and 400m IM and finished top 20 in the 100m breast.Kate Mathewson won a bronze medal in the 400m free, fifth place in the 100m fly, 800m free and 1500m free, seventh in the 200m fly and 13th in the 200m free.Courtney Ranieri placed top 20 in the 400m IM and 200m fly.Trevor Nicholas led boys 16-17 with gold medals in the 100m breast and 200m IM, silver in the 100m back, fourth place in the 400m IM and 200m breast and fifth in the 200m back.Teammate Iain Manson set personal best times to finish 10th in the 100m breast, 15th in the 200m breast and top 20 in the 100m and 200m backstroke.COBRA relay teams had a great meet.The girls 10 and under relay team of Bayley Dalbec, Marion Olivier, Vivianna Choi and Cierra Glysz won gold in the 4x50m freestyle and silver in both the 4x50m and 4x100m medley relays.Dalbec, Olivier and Glysz were joined by teammate Amanda Campbell to win gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay where they set a new COBRA club record.The girls 11, 12 relay team of Paige Hall, Katrina Bhagaloo, Ashley Beckles and Edna Banjanovic were fourth in the 4x100m medley relay.In the girls 13, 14 relay events, Brooke Hall, Tara Dakers, Sarah Moore and Danielle Ranieri swam to seventh place in both the 4x50m and 4x100m medley relays. Hall, Dakers and Ranieri were joined by teammate Paige Hall to finish eighth in the 4x100m freestyle relay. TThe girls' 15-17 relay team of Brooke Hall, Kate Mathewson, Kaylee Dakers and Meagan Littlejohn earned a silver medal in the 4x100m free relay and sixth in the 4x50m medley relay. Dakers, Mathewson, Littlejohn and Alisha Harricharan won gold in the 4x50m medley relay. Dakers, Littlejohn, Harricharan and Victoria Thicke-Rattray were sixth in the 4x100m medley relay. In the boys 16-17 age category, Trevor Nicholas, Iain Manson, Alex Kyriacopoulos and James Middlebrook finished sixth in the 4x50m medley relay and eighth in both the 4x50m and 4x100m freestyle relays.
